Perth and Kinross Council leader Grant Laing resigns after embezzlement charges, stepping down as SNP member.
Grant Laing, leader of Perth and Kinross Council, has stepped down for personal reasons after being charged with embezzlement by Police Scotland, covering alleged misconduct between 2017 and 2025.
The 63-year-old, first elected in 2012 and council leader since 2022, has also left the SNP and will serve as an independent councillor.
The SNP called the situation a "huge shock" and declined further comment due to ongoing criminal proceedings.
Councillor Eric Drysdale is acting leader until a new council leader is appointed at the full council meeting on October 29, 2025.
The council confirmed no further details would be released.
