An OBC activist’s car was set on fire in Maharashtra amid tensions over Maratha reservation demands.
An OBC activist's car was set on fire in Jalna, Maharashtra, on September 21, 2025, around 10 p.m. in the Neelam Nagar area, according to police.
CCTV footage showed an unidentified person pouring an inflammable liquid on the vehicle before igniting it, damaging the upper part.
Nearby residents extinguished the flames.
The victim, Navnath Waghmare, accused supporters of Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange of the attack, alleging it was intimidation over opposition to extending OBC reservation benefits to Marathas.
Waghmare filed a complaint at Kadim Jalna police station, and police have registered a case, reviewing surveillance footage.
The incident occurred amid rising tensions over caste-based reservations, particularly following a state resolution to fast-track Kunbi caste certificates for Marathas in Marathwada, sparking protests from groups like Banjara and Dhangar communities fearing reduced access to quotas.
