ILCA stripped PSA of official builder status for not using standardized moulds, ensuring one-design fairness.
The International Laser Class Association (ILCA) has revoked Performance Sailcraft Australia’s (PSA) status as an official builder, effective August 27, 2025, due to failure to adopt the standardized ILCA master mould and tooling required for one-design consistency.
This decision, aimed at preserving fair competition, follows months of unsuccessful efforts to align PSA with class standards.
While no performance differences have been proven, PSA’s use of legacy moulds created measurable construction variations, contradicting ILCA’s goal of an “Off the Shelf, Equal Performance, One Design Sailboat.” The move, rooted in maintaining the class’s integrity, comes after ILCA acquired rights from PSA in 2024 with a requirement for full compliance, which was not met under new ownership.
Meanwhile, major ILCA events, including the Under-21 European Championships and Master World Championships, are underway with strong global participation.
