The Himachal Pradesh Fisheries Department won the SKOCH Gold Award 2025 for its successful captive breeding program that boosted Golden Mahaseer fingerling production from under 5,000 to 87,000 in 2024–25, with 34,500 released into rivers and reservoirs.
The effort, aided by ICAR-CIFRI, improved breeding, nutrition, and disease control, supporting conservation, eco-tourism, and local livelihoods.
Fish production in the state rose from 17,025.97 to 19,019.83 metric tonnes, and a new farm in Sunni aims to exceed 100,000 fingerlings annually.
