Ghana intercepts 1,195 boxes of illicit Tramadol near Togo border, arrests six suspects.
On September 18, 2025, Ghanaian police and the Narcotics Control Commission intercepted over 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg—commonly known as “Red”—in Nalerigu near the Togo border.
The drugs, concealed in two trucks originating from Sankase, Togo, were intended for distribution in northern Ghana.
Six suspects were arrested and are cooperating with investigators.
The seizure highlights ongoing cross-border trafficking and the growing public health crisis linked to illicit tramadol use, particularly among youth and commercial drivers.
Authorities continue efforts to disrupt drug networks and have destroyed millions of capsules in 2025.
