Delhi court fines petitioner ₹50,000 for misusing legal petitions over Shaheen Bagh demolitions, citing lack of direct interest and abuse of process.
The Delhi High Court fined a petitioner ₹50,000 for misusing legal petitions in cases involving unauthorized constructions at Shaheen Bagh, ruling he had no direct legal interest despite living 2.5 kilometers away.
Justice Mini Pushkarna warned that writ jurisdiction must not be exploited for ulterior motives, citing the principle that those with "unclean hands" cannot seek judicial remedies.
The court noted demolition actions were completed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on September 17–18, 2025, with police support, and ordered future petitions by the same individual must include a copy of this judgment to prevent abuse.
While affirming the need to address illegal structures, the court stressed that legal processes should not be weaponized for personal gain.
