BW Offshore marks first gas on the Barossa LNG project’s FPSO, a major step toward full operations.
BW Offshore has achieved First Gas on the BW Opal FPSO, a key milestone for the Santos-operated Barossa LNG project off Australia’s Northern Territory.
The event followed the vessel’s Ready for Start-Up on September 16, triggering 60% of the contractual dayrate.
The FPSO, designed to process up to 850 million cubic feet of gas daily and produce 11,000 barrels of condensate, is now transitioning to full operations.
Next steps include an Interim Performance Test, raising the payable dayrate to 85%, followed by Practical Completion, which will unlock 100% of the dayrate and begin the 15-year firm contract.
The project supports long-term energy production from the Barossa gas field and reflects BW Offshore’s capability in delivering complex offshore energy solutions.
