AU, EU, and UN leaders reaffirmed multilateralism, urged G20 action, and pledged climate and peace efforts at UN meeting.
Leaders of the African Union, European Union, and United Nations met at UN Headquarters in New York on September 21, 2025, during the 80th UN General Assembly, reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism and adherence to the UN Charter.
They condemned violations of international, humanitarian, and human rights law, and discussed ongoing peace efforts in Sudan, Libya, the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Sahel, supporting the African Union’s mission in Somalia and regional peace initiatives.
The groups called for predictable funding for AU-led operations, progress on the Sevilla Commitment to boost development financing and address debt, urged G20 action under South Africa’s presidency, and emphasized climate action ahead of COP30 in Brazil.
They agreed to meet again in 2026.
