The Pines Wind Farm, proposed for state forests near Bathurst, NSW, could supply 1.25 million homes—about 10% of the state’s electricity—using existing transmission lines and strong wind resources.
Led by TagEnergy and StromloEnergy, the project is in the planning phase, with a three-year approval process starting in 2024, construction set for 2028, and operations beginning in 2031.
Up to 250 turbines are planned, and a $100 million Nearby Neighbour Program will offer benefits to local residents regardless of opposition.
However, the grassroots group Oberon Against Wind Towers opposes the project, citing community resistance, environmental concerns, and the belief that similar projects succeed better in western regions, despite supporting renewable energy in principle.
