The UN Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa advanced global efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition through sustainable, inclusive food system reforms.

The Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy, brought together over 3,500 participants from 145 countries and 700 non-state actors to advance global efforts in transforming food systems. The summit emphasized sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems through partnerships, data-driven investment, and policy innovation, with a focus on tackling malnutrition and food insecurity. Small and medium-sized enterprises, including GAIN-supported businesses, highlighted their role in scaling nutrition-focused solutions. In Tanzania, biofortified high-iron beans are being promoted to combat hidden hunger, strengthen local agriculture, and improve school feeding programs. The initiative, supported by public-private partnerships, offers a cost-effective way to enhance nutrition without changing dietary habits.
