Prime Minister Marape calls for unity, urging a suspended official to step aside for legal processes, as PNG focuses on infrastructure and economic growth.
Prime Minister James Marape has called for national unity and lawful resolution of disputes, urging suspended Kumul Petroleum Holdings director Wapu Sonk to step aside temporarily to allow legal processes to unfold.
Speaking ahead of the UN General Assembly and following PNG’s 50th Independence Anniversary, Marape emphasized that no individual or tribe should disrupt the nation, especially as key infrastructure like the Highlands Highway remains vital for major projects such as PNG LNG and Hela’s gasfields.
He pledged government action to secure road access through alternative routes and upgrades, including plans linking Mendi, Margarima, Tari, and Kikori.
Marape declared a “Year of Reset,” stressing the need to prioritize national interests over tribal or personal ones, uphold the rule of law, and advance economic growth with targets to reach K200 billion by 2030.
He urged citizens to participate in building a peaceful, prosperous future through modern governance and infrastructure development.
El primer ministro Marape hace un llamado a la unidad, instando a un funcionario suspendido a hacerse a un lado para los procesos legales, ya que PNG se centra en la infraestructura y el crecimiento económico.
