New York launches outdoor challenge for teens to reduce screen time and boost health through nature activities.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has launched the "Get Offline, Get Outside Challenge" for youth aged 12 to 18, urging them to reduce screen time and engage in 50 nature-based activities like hiking, fishing, camping, and birding.
Promoted by the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation, the initiative aims to improve youth mental and physical health by fostering outdoor exploration and environmental connection.
Participants who complete all tasks before turning 19 receive a certificate, sticker, and chance to win prizes.
The program supports broader state efforts to combat declining physical activity, reduce stress, and encourage family recreation in natural settings.
