Indian entrepreneur Ram Gopal Kothari becomes first Indian to run a marathon at the North Pole.
Ram Gopal Kothari, a Kolkata-born entrepreneur, became the first Indian to complete a full marathon at the Geographic North Pole, finishing the 42.2-kilometre race on sea ice in just over eight hours despite extreme cold, melting ice, cramps, and a foot injury.
The event, supported by an icebreaker and medical teams, took place from Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
Overcoming a difficult childhood and a near-suicidal crisis in 2012, Kothari rebuilt his life through door-to-door insurance sales and built a successful business.
Since 2018, he has pursued extreme adventures across all seven continents, including Antarctica, Greenland, and Mount Elbrus, and has visited 70 countries.
He now aims to complete the World Marathon Challenge, summit the highest peaks on each continent, and visit 100 nations by 2027.
His achievement was honored by Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
