India to launch Rs 80,000 crore tender for four new amphibious warships to enhance maritime and out-of-area operations.
The Indian Navy is preparing to issue a Rs 80,000 crore tender for four large Landing Platform Dock amphibious warships to boost its maritime and out-of-area operational capabilities.
The project, expected to be reviewed by the Defence Ministry, will involve major Indian shipbuilders like L&T, Mazagon Dockyards, Cochin Shipyard, and Hindustan Shipbuilding Limited, potentially with international design partners.
The warships will support large-scale force deployment, serve as command centers, operate fixed-wing naval drones, and carry long-range anti-ship missiles and air defense systems.
They will also aid in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The move follows a 2021 request for information and marks one of India’s largest naval construction initiatives.
