A Chicago cyclist died in Indiana after being hit by a truck while turning left on a rural road.
A 29-year-old cyclist, Mason Anderson of Chicago, died Friday morning in LaPorte County, Indiana, after being struck by a commercial motor vehicle at the intersection of State Road 39 and County Road 900 North.
Anderson was part of a group riding south on the shoulder of State Road 39 when he began a left turn onto County Road 900 North.
A 64-year-old truck driver, traveling in the same direction, moved into a passing zone to overtake the cyclists and attempted to swerve left to avoid Anderson but collided with the trailer.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene around 11:59 a.m.
The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, toxicology results are pending, and no further details have been released.
