Afghanistan’s Economic Commission has approved a draft policy to boost domestic mineral processing and exports, aiming to increase value addition, attract investment, and create jobs.
The plan includes building laboratory complexes at major border ports, each on 20-acre sites, to support nine government agencies.
The initiative, presented by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, seeks to align practices with international standards and improve inter-agency coordination.
Other matters discussed were referred to the supreme leader for final approval.
The policy is part of broader efforts to strengthen Afghanistan’s mining sector and economy amid ongoing challenges related to infrastructure, security, and international engagement.
