A woman accused in a 2011 cruise fraud case was freed after prosecutors missed deadlines, but faces possible reinstatement of charges.
Vicky Boodram, a former travel agent, has been discharged from over 100 fraud charges tied to a failed 2011 Caribbean cruise that never sailed, after prosecutors failed to meet multiple deadlines to present evidence.
The case, which had dragged on for years and moved from magistrate’s court to the High Court, was dismissed due to the state’s inability to proceed.
Boodram, who has been in custody since 2016, remains charged in connection with her 2017 escape from prison.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions may still reinstate the fraud case if procedural issues are resolved.
