Senator Rounds demands USPS fix South Dakota delivery delays caused by operational cuts.
Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.)
is urging the U.S.
Postal Service to fix widespread mail delivery delays in South Dakota, citing critical delays in vital mail such as VA communications and prescriptions.
He attributes the decline to the USPS’s “Delivering for America” plan, which downsized operations in Sioux Falls and rerouted mail through Omaha and Denver, increasing delivery times and disrupting rural service.
Residents report delays of weeks for local mail, with some items taking longer to arrive than travel time to appointments.
Rounds sent a formal letter to Postmaster General David Steiner, even using email due to postal concerns, and has reintroduced legislation to protect rural mail facilities and ensure timely newspaper delivery.
The USPS did not respond to requests for comment.
