River Island is closing 35 UK stores due to financial pressures and changing shopping habits.
River Island is closing 35 UK stores, including locations in Oxford’s Westgate Centre and Didcot’s Orchard Centre, as part of a restructuring to address financial pressures from shifting shopping habits and rising costs.
The move, aimed at ensuring long-term stability, also includes reduced rents at 71 other stores.
The closures follow a trend of retail challenges across the UK, with other brands exiting the market while some, like Superdrug, expand.
The company, which operates 223 stores in the UK and Ireland and employs around 5,500 people, said the changes are necessary to align with current customer behavior.
The Westgate Centre’s management confirmed the closure but did not disclose further details.
