Nebraska’s unemployment rate held steady at 3% in August 2025, the fifth straight month at that level, with the state’s labor force growing due to record employment in the Omaha metro area, which surpassed 525,500 workers for two consecutive months.
Nebraska ranked seventh lowest in the nation, below Hawaii, Montana, Vermont, Alabama, and the Dakotas.
Growth occurred in private education, health services, leisure and hospitality, mining, and construction.
Meanwhile, Iowa’s rate rose slightly to 3.8%, tying for 22nd lowest nationally, with 300 new jobs added in professional and business services and a drop in unemployment claims.
Officials credited workforce development efforts and encouraged job seekers to use IowaWORKS.gov or local American Job Centers.
