Madhya Pradesh achieves record-low solar-plus-storage prices, advancing India’s clean energy goals.
Madhya Pradesh has secured India’s lowest-ever prices for solar power with battery storage, at 2.70 and 2.764 rupees per kilowatt-hour, from CEIGALL India and ACME Solar.
The project includes two 220-megawatt units that generate solar power during the day and use stored energy to supply electricity in the evenings and mornings, recharging batteries at night using cheaper grid power.
State officials say this proves renewable energy with storage can now compete with coal in cost, paving the way for 24-hour clean power.
The state plans to expand long-duration storage to reduce fossil fuel reliance.
This progress supports India’s goal of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, though coal remains a major energy source due to ongoing challenges in scaling affordable, large-scale storage.
