A 43-year-old lorry driver, Neil Platt, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a fatal crash on the M58 motorway in Lancashire on May 17, 2024, which killed father-of-two Danny Aitchison.
Dashcam footage showed Platt using his phone to view social media, including explicit content, moments before the collision.
He was traveling at 54 mph and only braked 35 meters from the stationary car ahead, causing a chain reaction that ignited a fire.
Aitchison, who was speaking to his partner when the crash occurred, died instantly.
Platt, who admitted to distracted driving and lied initially, was condemned by the judge as selfish and arrogant.
He will serve two-thirds of his sentence in custody, be banned from driving for 13 years and eight months, and must pass an extended driving test upon release.
