LifeWise opened a new Ohio headquarters for its religious education program, expanding amid new state law and controversy.
LifeWise, a nonprofit offering Bible-based religious instruction off school grounds, opened a new 24,000-square-foot headquarters in Hilliard, Ohio, on September 19, 2025, housed in a renovated former aquatic facility.
The organization, which began in 2020 with a few schools and now serves nearly 1,200 schools and up to 100,000 students nationwide, operates under Ohio laws allowing student release for off-campus religious programs.
A new state law, effective September 30, mandates districts to provide time for such programs, though specifics remain flexible.
Founder Joel Penton said the new facility will help expand outreach and support local leaders.
LifeWise maintains participation is voluntary with parental consent and transportation provided.
Critics, including Honesty for Ohio Education, argue the programs may disrupt school, lack transparency, and create divisions, with some alleging efforts to convert non-religious students.
The group is releasing a documentary, “Off School Property,” for a limited theatrical release on October 23.
