Lexi Beagan, a 21-year-old from Dungog, is set to play in the Newcastle Rugby League women’s grand final at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday, fulfilling a lifelong dream after growing up cheering for the Newcastle Knights.
She’s a key player for the Northern Hawks, a team that transformed from last place at midseason into a seven-game winning streak, culminating in a final against defending champions Maitland, who advanced with a 16-12 win over Central Newcastle.
The Hawks’ turnaround came after stabilizing their halves, including Brandii Davis-Welsh, a Knights NSW Women’s Premiership player.
