Keaʻau High’s Elise Hannigan named Hawaii State Teacher of the Year for leading student success initiatives.
Judith “Elise” Hannigan, a 13-year veteran English teacher and Freshman Academy coordinator at Keaʻau High School, was named Hawaii State Teacher of the Year in a ceremony at Washington Place in Honolulu, honored by Gov.
Josh Green and other state leaders.
Recognized for her leadership in improving student success, she helped reduce ninth-grade dropout rates and launched initiatives including a summer bridge program, career exploration fair, and a senior-freshman mentorship program.
A mentor to new teachers and active in state education efforts, Hannigan will represent Hawaii in the National Teacher of the Year program.
The award celebrates the impact of educators across the state, with 15 other teachers also honored.
