India sent 65 troops to Russia-Belarus’s Zapad-2025 drill, boosting defense ties with Moscow amid NATO observation.
India sent 65 military personnel to the Zapad-2025 exercise in Russia and Belarus, a large-scale drill involving around 100,000 troops and aimed at boosting interoperability and integrating new technologies.
The joint exercise, held from September 12–16 across 41 training sites, included joint planning, tactical drills, and special operations.
India’s participation, confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs, strengthens defense ties with Russia, a key partner under their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
The MEA noted that NATO members including the U.S., Turkey, and Hungary also observed the exercise, countering EU concerns over India’s engagement with Russia and its oil purchases, which some feared could impact India-EU trade talks.
