India lowers estimated logistics costs to 7.97% of GDP, upping efficiency and transparency.
India has launched a new scientific framework estimating logistics costs at 7.97% of GDP, replacing earlier inconsistent figures of 13–14%, according to a report by NCAER for DPIIT.
The assessment, using a hybrid method of surveys and data, covers transport modes, products, and firm sizes, and supports the National Logistics Policy.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal unveiled related initiatives including IPRS 3.0 to rate industrial parks, integrated logistics plans in eight cities, a guidebook for 12,167 HSN codes, the Logistics Data Bank 2.0 for real-time tracking, and the LEADS platform to benchmark state performance.
These efforts aim to boost transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness, supporting India’s goal to become a global logistics hub.
