Former LA prosecutor Gary Haynes convicted on bribery charges tied to a diversion program scheme.
A federal jury has convicted former Lafayette assistant district attorney Gary Haynes on multiple bribery and corruption charges tied to a pre-trial diversion program.
Prosecutors said Haynes accepted kickbacks from offenders who paid for online courses through companies linked to co-conspirators, including Dusty Guidry, who is also facing charges.
The scheme involved concealing payments and destroying documents to obstruct justice.
Haynes, who denied receiving two $10,000 checks, faces up to 60 years in prison and fines.
Guidry is set to be sentenced, and former LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet, linked to the case, awaits trial on money laundering and conspiracy charges.
The trial relied on edited recordings of conversations with others who have pleaded guilty, while unedited versions—containing sensitive content and names of public officials—were excluded from evidence.
Sentencing for Haynes is set for December.
