A 51-foot-tall Durga idol, built by the Swastika Yubak Sangha in Siliguri, aims to become the largest in North Bengal, unveiled during Durga Puja from September 27 to October 2. Despite heavy rains, the committee used eco-friendly materials and community effort to complete the structure. The festival, marking the goddess Durga’s victory over Mahishasur, is a major cultural event promoting unity and tradition. The West Bengal government provided ₹1.1 lakh to each committee for infrastructure and public services. In Kolkata, a pandal was constructed from 10 lakh newspaper pieces, highlighting creative sustainability.
