Elias Rodriguez fatally shot two Israeli Embassy staff at a D.C. museum, shouting "Free Palestine," and is facing federal murder and hate crime charges.
Elias Rodriguez, 43, was accused of fatally shooting two Israeli Embassy staff members, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on May 21, 2025.
Prosecutors said he wore a body camera, purchased online and delivered to his hotel beforehand, which recorded the killings from his perspective, indicating premeditation.
He shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack and later told authorities he acted for Palestine and Gaza.
Rodriguez flew from Chicago with a handgun in checked luggage and surrendered inside the museum, claiming he was unarmed.
The victims, engaged to be married, were a U.S. citizen and an Israeli national.
Indicted on federal hate crime and murder charges, Rodriguez’s defense seeks more time to submit mitigation evidence, a request the government opposes.
A hearing on the matter is set for next Wednesday.
Prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Police body camera footage of his arrest has been provided to defense attorneys.
