Cillian Murphy, Oscar winner and star of *Peaky Blinders*, promotes his new film *Steve*, a drama about a headteacher’s mental health struggles, while a *Peaky Blinders* movie concludes the series’ story.
Cillian Murphy, 49, says he bears no resemblance to his Peaky Blinders character Tommy Shelby, joking he’s “not a psychopathic gangster.” The Irish actor called portraying Shelby across six seasons a defining experience, praising the show’s strong writing and cultural timing.
Though the series ended in 2022, a Netflix film, The Immortal Man, set during WWII and written by creator Steven Knight, wraps up the story with production completed in December 2024.
Murphy, an Oscar winner for Oppenheimer, is now promoting his new film Steve, a 1996 drama about a headteacher battling mental health while guiding troubled youth, based on Max Porter’s novella Shy.
The film, now in theaters and coming to Netflix next month, explores education, youth violence, and mental health, with Murphy calling teachers “custodians of the next generation.”
