Canada seeks to resolve canola tariffs with China through high-level visits and talks.
Liberal MP Kody Blois says Canada expects more high-level visits to China as Ottawa works to resolve a trade dispute over canola tariffs.
Blois, parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Mark Carney, joined Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe on a recent trip to China to urge Beijing to lift tariffs on Canadian canola, imposed after Canada matched U.S. tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
The visit included meetings with Chinese officials from trade, foreign affairs, and customs departments, which Blois described as positive and a chance for re-engagement.
He anticipates further dialogue and increased federal ministerial visits to address trade tensions and support Canada’s $4.9 billion canola export market.
