A Bahamian jury acquitted Jamaican coach Robert Ayton of sexual assault charges on Sept. 19, 2025.
Robert Ayton, a 54-year-old Jamaican high school track coach and math teacher, was acquitted on all three counts of sexual assault and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor by a 6-2 jury in The Bahamas.
The trial, which concluded on September 19, 2025, involved allegations from a teenage male student claiming multiple incidents between 2019 and 2021, including forced sexual acts at a school gym and Ayton’s home.
Prosecutors argued the victim’s detailed testimony and medical evidence supported the claims, while the defense challenged the credibility of the accuser and his friend, citing inconsistencies and potential coaching.
Ayton denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence, and the jury found insufficient evidence to convict after nearly five hours of deliberation.
The verdict was delivered by Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns.
