Clean energy jobs in the U.S. grew nearly three times faster than the overall workforce in 2024, adding 100,000 positions and reaching over 3.5 million employees, according to a study by environmental group E2.
The sector, which includes solar, wind, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, and battery storage, now employs three times more people than the oil, gas, and coal industries combined.
Energy efficiency accounts for nearly 2.4 million of these jobs.
Despite strong growth, the Trump administration’s policies favoring fossil fuels and rolling back federal support for renewables threaten this momentum, with nearly $19 billion in wind and solar projects canceled and industry instability already causing job losses.
