Seventy-seven5 senior citizens from southern Odisha began a pilgrimage to Ayodhya and Varanasi on a special train, part of the state government’s Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana.
The trip, which includes free food, lodging, and medical care, is one of 10 planned journeys from stations including Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rayagada, and Balasore.
Accompanied by officials, doctors, and nurses, the elderly travelers will visit religious sites before returning.
Additional pilgrimages are scheduled to Ujjain, Sambalpur, Rayagada, and Balasore later in the year.
