On September 18, 2025, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba hosted a free Dementia Research Viewing Party in Portage la Prairie, featuring a live-streamed presentation by Dr. Donald Weaver on the latest dementia research.
The event, held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Herman Prior Activity Centre, allowed attendees to learn about emerging treatments and ask questions.
Similar events are planned across Manitoba, including a research forum in Winkler on October 10 and the fall launch of the Minds in Motion program in Portage la Prairie, which supports individuals with mild to moderate dementia and their care partners through social activities and gentle exercise.
On World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21, the Collective Prevention Service in St. Martin and FISH of Sanibel-Captiva are promoting awareness and reducing stigma through community engagement and education.
Tulsa Community College also held a Chalk The Walk event to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s, with a walk scheduled for September 20.
These efforts emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, open conversations, and community support in addressing dementia.
