Panama starts choosing a company to build a 76-km gas pipeline to ease canal traffic and boost energy trade.
The Panama Canal Authority has begun selecting a concessionaire for a 76-kilometer natural gas pipeline project designed to create an interoceanic energy corridor.
The pipeline, capable of moving up to 2.5 million barrels per day, will link Atlantic and Pacific coast terminals, easing canal congestion and supporting global energy transport without extra water use.
It aims to boost Panama’s competitiveness by facilitating the movement of propane, butane, and ethane between the Gulf of Mexico and Northeast Asia.
The process includes a prequalification stage and dialogue with shortlisted companies, following a market engagement event with over 45 international energy firms.
The project will adhere to international safety, environmental, and operational standards.
