The Amisk Wâciw Âsokan, or Beaver Hills Bridge, opened on September 12, connecting Strathcona County’s Township Road 540 to Edmonton’s 167 Avenue across the North Saskatchewan River.
Spanning 230 meters, the $38.6 million pedestrian bridge features shared pathways, lookout points, seating, and naturalized landscaping, supporting a continuous 75-kilometer trail from Fort Saskatchewan to Edmonton’s Terwillegar Footbridge.
Named by Elder Dr. Jerry Saddleback, the bridge honors Indigenous language and heritage.
Funding came from Strathcona County, Edmonton, the River Valley Alliance, and federal and provincial governments.
