Mumbai mandates app taxis to match black cab fares, raising prices by at least Rs 5/km.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority has ordered app-based taxi and auto rickshaw services like Uber, Ola, and Rapido to adopt the base fare of traditional black-and-yellow taxis—Rs 20.66 per km for non-AC and Rs 22.72 for AC vehicles—until separate rates are set.
Drivers will receive 80% of fares, with discounts up to 25% during low demand and surge pricing up to 1.5 times during high demand.
The move follows pressure from driver unions threatening protests over fare hikes.
Passengers will pay at least Rs 5 more per km than before.
