A man killed three Pennsylvania officers in a stalking-related ambush, ending in a fatal shootout after a 15-hour standoff.
A 24-year-old man, Matthew James Ruth, ambushed and killed three Pennsylvania police officers and wounded two others at his ex-girlfriend’s home in a suspected stalking-related attack. Armed with an AR-style rifle and a suppressor, Ruth opened fire during a 15-hour standoff after a trail camera captured him peering through a scope at the house. Officers were responding to reports of suspicious activity, including a vehicle fire, and had been seeking Ruth on misdemeanor warrants. The victims, all long-time veterans of the Northern York County Regional Police Department, were killed in a shootout that ended with Ruth being fatally shot by police. The incident is one of the deadliest days for law enforcement in Pennsylvania this century.
