India's UAPA tribunal upheld the 2025 ban on JKIM, citing separatist ties and threats to national security.
India's UAPA Tribunal has upheld the government's 2025 ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), calling it an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Headed by Delhi High Court judge Justice Sachin Datta, the tribunal found ample justification for the ban, citing evidence of separatist activities and ties with elements across the border that threaten India's sovereignty and integrity.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had initially declared JKIM unlawful in March 2025 due to its secessionist links.
The tribunal dismissed the group's defense as lacking credible counter-evidence.
The decision was finalized on September 3, 2025.
