Fourteen former NC State athletes sue over abuse by former sports medicine director, alleging misconduct and institutional failure to act.
Fourteen former NC State male athletes have filed a state lawsuit alleging sexual abuse and harassment by former director of sports medicine Robert Murphy Jr., including improper touching during massages and intrusive observation during drug testing.
The case expands on a federal lawsuit from three years ago by one athlete and names nine defendants, including school officials accused of negligence in failing to act on concerns about Murphy’s conduct despite awareness from senior athletics staff.
The plaintiffs claim a culture of fear prevented reporting, and Murphy was allowed to continue working with athletes despite warnings.
NC State has not commented on the pending litigation.
