Delhi has unveiled a Rs 57,000 crore Drainage Master Plan to tackle chronic waterlogging and outdated sewer systems, with implementation beginning in phases across three drainage basins—Najafgarh, Barapullah, and Trans-Yamuna.
The five-year plan, launched by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and supported by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aims to modernize the city’s drainage infrastructure over the next 30 to 35 years, aligning with India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The project includes standardized future development and central government financial backing, targeting areas most affected by flooding due to past unplanned urban growth.
