Agoda apologized for severance clauses blocking Singapore workers from seeking help, after backlash from labor authorities.
Agoda, an online travel agency, apologized for including severance clauses that discouraged retrenched employees in Singapore from contacting unions or government agencies, following criticism from the Ministry of Manpower, NTUC, and SISEU.
The company, which laid off about 50 workers as part of a global restructuring, has since engaged with labor groups and authorities, committed to fair employment practices, and pledged support for affected workers.
Legal experts confirmed such clauses are unenforceable under Singapore’s Employment Claims Act, which protects workers’ rights to seek redress.
Agoda reaffirmed its dedication to open communication and fair treatment in workforce changes.
Agoda se disculpó por las cláusulas de indemnización por despido que bloqueaban a los trabajadores de Singapur de buscar ayuda, después de la reacción de las autoridades laborales.
