A 68-year-old woman was sentenced for accidentally reversing into and killing an 82-year-old volunteer at a showground event.
Valerie Ann Munro, 68, was sentenced for negligent driving occasioning death after accidentally reversing her Subaru Forester into 82-year-old Lions Club volunteer Margaret Jean Waters at Stroud Showground on April 24, causing her death.
While helping set up a display, Munro, who had over 35 years of driving experience with no prior serious collisions, left the engine running and stepped out to remove obstructions.
When she tried to stop the vehicle, she mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to reverse and strike Waters and another elderly woman.
Munro pleaded guilty, was fined $800, placed on a one-year good behavior bond, and disqualified from driving for a year.
