Panama to build $2–8B gas pipeline to Asia, starting 2027, boosting trade and jobs.
Panama is launching formal talks for a $2–8 billion gas pipeline project linking the U.S. East Coast to Asia, with construction set to begin in 2027.
The 77-kilometer pipeline, part of a broader 10-year development plan, will transport propane, butane, and ethane to China, Japan, and South Korea, potentially carrying nearly 53 million tons of fuel by 2040.
The plan includes a new reservoir, a 76-kilometer pipeline, two maritime terminals, and a new Pacific port at Corozal, expected to create over 45,000 jobs and contribute more than $64 billion to the economy.
The projects aim to secure water supply, expand logistics capacity, and maintain Panama’s global trade role amid shifting trade patterns and competition.
