Oklahoma cleared 64 homeless encampments in Tulsa, removing 1.97 million pounds of debris, without providing housing or transport for displaced people.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced the completion of Operation SAFE, a 14-day effort by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to clear 64 homeless encampments from state-owned property in Tulsa, removing 1.97 million pounds of debris.
The operation, aimed at improving safety and cleanliness, drew criticism from Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols, who said it lacked a plan to provide housing or services for displaced individuals.
While no arrests were made and no transportation to services was offered, state and local agencies will continue coordinating to offer safe housing and treatment options.
