Brunei is boosting its anti-scam efforts via new agencies and regional cooperation under a 2025 ASEAN cybercrime declaration.
Brunei is intensifying its fight against online scams and digital fraud through enhanced cooperation among agencies, including an anti-scam center and a new police helpline for victims.
These efforts were highlighted during Brunei’s cybersecurity conference, a key regional event promoting collaboration across Southeast Asia.
The initiative aligns with a new ASEAN declaration adopted in September 2025, aimed at combating cybercrime and online fraud as transnational threats.
The declaration calls for stronger law enforcement coordination, public awareness, research on emerging tactics, improved policies, and expanded cooperation through information sharing, joint operations, and dedicated anti-scam centers to trace and freeze illicit funds.
It also emphasizes collaboration with governments, private sector, financial institutions, and international partners to prevent crime, prosecute offenders, and protect victims.
