Virgin Australia has launched a trial allowing dogs and cats to fly in-cabin on select routes between Melbourne and the Gold Coast, and Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast, starting October 16, 2025.
The service, priced at $149 per pet one-way, will be limited to four pets per flight, with owners seated in designated areas.
Advanced HEPA filtration systems will help maintain air quality for pet-allergic passengers.
After the trial ends January 30, 2026, the service will expand to all domestic flights.
The airline consulted animal welfare and accessibility groups and studied international models before launching.
