A Sudanese man was indicted for lying about ISIS ties on his citizenship application and destroying evidence.
A 31-year-old Sudanese national from Goose Creek, Ala Aldeen Alshaikh, has been indicted on federal charges for lying about ties to ISIS during his U.S. citizenship application, obstructing a federal investigation, and destroying evidence.
Authorities allege he pledged allegiance to ISIS in August 2021, denied such connections during a September 2021 immigration interview, and later lied to FBI agents about offering aviation expertise to a militant group.
He is accused of deleting online messages related to these claims.
Alshaikh faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled for a detention hearing on September 19.
